Patrick Rugo is a Senior Partner of the Firm and the head of the Firm’s Commercial, Corporate Law and Real Property practice. He is a practitioner in the areas of corporate and commercial law, real estate and property development, mergers and acquisitions, and international and cross-border transactions. Having previously worked with the Kenyan anti-corruption and economic crimes commission, he also handles client briefs in those areas.

Patrick is a patient and meticulous practitioner, with a knack for attention to detail. He is able to dissect complex legal issues and provide clients with simplified but pragmatic solutions to their legal problems, without losing the bigger picture of their best interests and needs.

Experience 

  • Preparing and negotiating shareholder, partnership and joint venture agreements.

  • Providing corporate fundraising and restructuring advice.

  • Preparing and negotiating commercial contracts.

  •  Providing general commercial/corporate law advice.

  • Advising on regulatory and corporate governance matters. 
  • Acting for various clients seeking approvals from a range of regulators.
  • Acting for principals including property developers, universities and local government in relation to a broad range of projects such as hotels, civic buildings and cultural centres
  •  Drafting real estate development and management contracts and related documents.

  •   Providing corporate governance advice 
  • Acting for clients on the complex area of renewable energy projects.

  • Advising clients on anti-corruption and economic crimes matters.

  • Acting and advising clients on corporate and commercial disputes resolution, including representation in conciliations, mediations, arbitrations and litigation.
  • Acting for buyers and sellers in merger and acquisition transactions, including negotiated acquisitions and disposals, takeovers and schemes of arrangements

  • Bachelor of Laws (Honours).
